About the Artist

Celeni Filpo

Raised in the Dominican Republic surrounded by mountains, rivers, and greenery, Filpo emigrated to the United States at the age of twelve. A year later, motivated by the hardships of her childhood and acclimation to life in the U.S., Filpo found her “art”.

One influence for the artist’s vision is her mother, who raised Filpo and her two younger siblings as a single mother, displaying initiative, courage and strength which can be portrayed in Filpo’s work ethic and craftsmanship.

Her style can be best described as expressionism and figurative art. Working with acrylic on canvas as her medium, Filpo’s work is driven by her admiration for women; Exploring their femininity, figures, forms and attitudes. The artist perceives women as being masterpieces within themselves as well as the world around them, making them fundamental for existence. When painting her subjects, more than a material creation it reflects a devotion to women.

Still learning and experimenting styles, Filpo continues her journey discovering herself as a woman in todays world and as an artist.

Today, Filpo resides in Long Island, New York.
